The Dragon Boat Festival is around the corner! The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the National Central Library (NCL) jointly organized cultural excursion for foreign scholars under the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship and the Chinese Studies Research Grant (Center for Chinese Studies).
The journey began at Wenshan Farm, where scholars experienced Taiwan's vibrant tea culture through traditional tea tasting and unique eco-friendly plant-rubbing crafts. 🍃🍵
Following this tea workshop, the day shifted toward Taiwan's dedication to Transitional Justice with a profound visit to the Jing-Mei White Terror Memorial Park (National Human Rights Museum). Argentine scholar Moreyra Maria Julia, who was visiting the park for her third time to conduct her research, shared her perspectives on this chapter of Taiwan’s human rights process. 🏛️📜
By stepping into the courtrooms and cells where used to deal with victims on black namelist, the tour allowed foreign scholars to see how Taiwan has confronted its authoritarian in the past. Through record of victims' account, painful memories can be imagined. The excursion fostered a deeper emotional and intellectual connection between global scholars and Taiwan’s ongoing democratic journey. 🕊️🤝
